I agree with that as well. I do not believe that adverts provide education on formula feeding. I've said it before on here, i remember when i was having my first baby (when i was 16) and i was quite well informed about breastfeeding but saw an advert for sma follow on milk on the telly and I was really confused. I remember thinking they were saying babies needed more iron after 6 months and that it was recommended from 6 months of age. I remember thinking 'so is this better than me breastfeeding after 6 months because of the iron?'
I was lucky to have my mother who had qualified as a midwife and her midwife friends to tell me no, breastmilk is still much better. If I had been without that kind of information I would have really thought i should stop breastfeeding and give her follow on milk. And that is purely from a formula milk advert giving misleading information!

I agree. There is a time and a place for such things; a journal aimed at students and midwives isn't one of them. There cant be any other "excuse" to advertise formula here except for those with profit and value.
    Get shot I think!!

I got my free issue a few weeks ago and I was really shocked to see so many formula adds :(
As informative as it is I really think they need to have a re-think and I certainly don't intend to subscribe.

To be honest, Im trying to speak to them to fathom a way we can work together but minus the ads and also to get some needed SMNET support from them too. Overlooking the ads you'd be silly to deny the sheer amazingness of the publication and its educational content.

Im talking to them about this very thread and im trying to seek a resolution that will be good for everyone concerned although this may take some time to iron out.

    Sounds interesting.
I may change my tune if I ever actually get into uni but won't be paying the amount they charge just for preparation, as I don't wish to show support for the formula advertising.
