I am often asked what books I read when I was a prospective student and/or preparing for Year 1.

These are good foundation books that would happily last through your three years. You will find many of these books on your Year 1 reading list.

You do not need to buy a whack of books before you apply or are interviewed infact our SMNET Guide to Applying, and our Preparing for Interview and 164 Real Interview Questions are a great way to prepare.

If you are about to start Uni then you will need these books!

However, many of you want to read midwifery books and get your head stuck into midwifery academia - maybe even before you apply as I did - so for those among you, here is my recommended reading list.

    Happy learning!

Wow this looks really helpful. I'm hoping to apply to Cardiff Uni to start Sept 2012 so I really wanna start reading and learning as much as I can before I apply. I will definitely be adding a couple of these book to my Xmas list :)

    Thanks :)

Some of those books have multiple editions, such as Mayes Midwifery... is it best to get the most recent?

Re: SMNET Prospective Students Reading List

Yes it is best to get the most recent, because the advice and guidelines change all the time with new evidence and research etc. There is a new edition of Mayes out soon so you might be best to wait a bit. X
