Does anyone have any links or references to articles re the value of maintaining a professional portfolio?

I am trying to write the intro to my portfolio (failing miseraby with all of it) and we need to put in a bit about the value of maintaining a portfolio - I can write this but finding it difficult to get quotes to back it up

    THanks in advance

edit: misunderstood the post. Oops. Realised you.mean for an essay not advice. My bad, probably time to sleep. I'll leave my reply below incase it helps
Not in midwifery but I have a file recording a reletivly up to date cv (which i tailor when i apply to jobs) and professional development. I've found it useful to list everything I've done in my job and volunteering though that's mainly for my benefit when i match my skills with job description it's not something I hand out and then a small file with my academic certificates.

I've found it useful as depending on what I need I can tailor the portfolio i take places to them specifically. Seemed a lot of hassle while back, but, as i'm now job huntimg i've found it helpful.

There may be different ideas for midwifery but that's what I do at the moment. If it helps. Xx
