Mootix I absolutely understand your problems as I had similar issues a couple of years ago (with both my parents) My own personal view is that you should def talk to the uni to find out what your options actually are and keep them fully in the loop rather than trying to keep loads of balls up in the air at one time and dropping them all.

Once you know what the options are you can make proper decisions based on concrete information. That way everybody knows what is happening.

In a caring profession like midwifery it would be cruel indeed if they did not accommodate you at this difficult time and whatever happens with your mum you need time to think through the situation and make sense of it in your head.

I had exactly the same thing hun with my mum. I never realised the seriousness if what 'terminal' meant then as I was really young. You know what it means and time is now important. Tell uni what is going on, and make the most of the time you have with your mum, whether that be by carrying on at uni or taking time out. It is something I regret not having done, and look back and think how differently things could have been. You are all going to need lots of support so take whatever uni offers.

Cant offer any advice, just wanted to say we are all here for you if you need us. Only today my mum too has had results for various tests one being liver cancer, fortunately hers has come back clear, but she has to have further tests for blood and bones now, its very very stressful so i cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling, we are here if you need us, i think you have been offered some good advice on this thread, if it was me hun I think i would take some time out and spend it concentrating on your family then continue the course after. Thinking of you, Take care xxxxxx

Thank you everyone for your comments. My mum passed away on Friday from secondary cancer in her liver and lungs. I have decided to not take time out as I need the distraction staying at home isn't gonna make me feel better xx
