I've had friends do the same thing... they were told various things such as giving 2 milks was upsetting the baby's stomach so decided to put their babies on formula.
Whether or not it's their interpretation of what they've been told or they aren't being told the right information who knows. It makes more sense to me to stop the formula and give the breastmilk rather than pour it down the sink, or at least freeze it and use it when the baby starts weaning (depending on when they experience this problem and how long that would mean the milk was frozen of course).

She doesn't think his tummy is upset because his nappies are still quite wet does she? We used to have a lot of women tell us they'd stopped breastfeeding because it gave their babies diarhhoea, when really it was just what a breastfed babies nappy looked like.

Redpiggy - you might be on to something. I didn't quiz her too closely on what kind of tummy upset he was suffering from. Possibly because I was working too hard to suspend my disbelief that you would keep the formula and throw away the breast milk!! but each to their own.

I'm hoping her obgyn will tell her to stop expressing if she wants to dry up completely but will suss her out next week to check. Thanks ladies :)
