The wonderful niteowl came up with the great idea of a book exchange where you send on your favourite, well thumbed copies of books like Call the Midwife and Babycatcher to other members.

Just post up what book you are happy to send on and then you and the recipient can exchange details via PM so protecting members annonimity.

SMNET is unable to accept responsibility for any of these exchanges that get lost in the post and suggests that you all use recorded post when sending your books to one another as you can then track your parcels.

    Happy reading!

    Yay!

I have a few books I'd like to pass on so I'll dig them out tomorrow and list them.

Recorded delivery is a good idea also  As a tip for skint students (and students-to-be, it can be a bit more expensive though, so if the value of the book is under £39, the sender can claim it back from Royal Mail if it goes missing in the post. You just have to have proof of posting (free at the PO if you ask when they're printing the post label). I'd def go Recorded for anything expensive or urgent though, as it has to be missing for 3 weeks before Royal Mail will investigate

Fab idea Niteowl, and thanks TP for setting up this thread

Was thinking that people could put a 'to pass on' list or wanted list within here. If as you said any books are exchanged if it is edited to show it gone then others won't be trying for it as well.

The good thing is if you miss a book/journal you wanted it will always be relisted when the recipient has finished with it.

I am going to set up for myself some sort of document with who has requested a book or what somebody is offering, so if anybody at a later date requests a book I'll have a record of who had it. This would also help newbies so they wouldn't have to read through all posts to see if anybbody has they could request/list available and I could check if anybody wants/has..All I would ask is that as well as editing to say if the pass a book on the person forwarding a book could PM me to say a particular book/journal has gone to whoever so I can make a note of this.

Hope this doesn't sound to confusing.

If I don't get a place as a student midwife maybe a could become a librarian!! LOL
