    magazine subscription??

Hi everyone, new to SMNET but thought you guys would be the best to offer advice!! im applying to unis this year, and wanted to subscribe to a midwifery magazine to start me off on the research! however, not actually being a student midwife yet, i have no idea which one (there seem to be lots) will be easily readable for someone that is not a midwife!? if this exists... i'd mostly like to be able to read about current issues etc? any help would be great :/
    confused applicant!

Journals- I subscribe to both essentially midirs and the practicing midwife. Both do fab rates for students and are easy to read. To make sure that you get the student rate you put down the year you hope to qualify.

Books- becoming a midwife in the 21st century by ian peate and cathy hamiliton
Midwife essentials vol 1 the basics, in the end I have all 4 volumes
Call the midwife trilogy by jenifier worth
12 babies on a bike - sorry cant remember who that ones by as my copy I have loaned to another smnetter.

I'm not sure which is the best but I think the majority of us use MIDIRS

    Hey,

I joined the RCM (Royal College of Midwives) before being a student - costs around £1.60 per month. You receive lots of freebies such as a diary each year, pens and also a monthly magazine which is really, really useful. Full of the latest news, relevant articles, book reviews and 'day in the life of' feature, the magazine is a very helpful tool, particularly when preparing for interview.

The MIDIRS magazines can go over your head - even as a first year I have to admit I don't understand any of mine! But the MIDIRS supplement magazine for students which I think is called Essentials?! Not too sure, but that one is really very good, again lots of relevant information and even a guide that asks you questions on articles and research included in the magazine, which helps you absorb and understand the information.

    Hope some of that helps!

    x
