Nursing is caring for life and treating illnesses and ailments. Midwifery is about the beginning of life a miracle not an illness!!

Nursing is with sick people, injured or dying people, where as midwifery is about the start of life, and promoting health and advising women, as to opposed to nursing people of all ages, male and female back to good health!

Nursing starts with illness. Midwifery starts with a new life.

A pregnant woman can get ill just the same as an ill person can get pregnant. But that doesn't make nursing about pregnancy does it?!!!

I agree. And if midwifery and nursing were that similar, then midwifery wouldnt be sooo competitive and people would just settle for doing nursing, and in that case hope that some of the ill people may be pregnant!!

like other have said, nursing is caring for sick people, nursing then back to health all ages and both sex. Midwifery is supporting, educating and providing 'woman centred' care for pregnant women who are usually healthy. If a pregant woman does become ill or has additional needs then as a midwife we refer them to the correct professional in that area :0) xx

as a midwife you're a medical Practitioner in your own right, and you have Professional accountability for your actions. Unless the pregnancy deviates away from the norm, then as a midwife you are primary career for mother and baby.
