Hey Donna - thanks so much for sharing that with us. You are a very brave lady. I think you were absolutely right to let your son see his sister and to share in her baptism and collecting memories. It sounds natural and so special. You have inspired me - thank you x

    Re: Birth Stories

I have 2 chldren but my second babys birth is the most exciting so will tell you that one. Lol

Right i woke up on the morning of 25th September 2006 at 7.30 feeling fine. As i was about to get up from the sofa at 8:15 am my waters suddenly broke. I rang the hospital straight away and was told that although its my second baby its not like in the movies where the pain comes straight away. I explained to her my first baby was quick(just under 5 hours) and this one might be the same if not faster she ignored me and said i will book you in for clinic tonight at 8:15 PM!! I explaineed that i had been on phone to her for 8 mins and i was having light pains and she dissmissed me!.

I thought it will be a while so had a shower! BIG MISTAKE! As soon as i got into shower my conctractions started coming every 2 mins! (a big surprise!) At this point its about 8:40 am. My eldest Liam was due at nursery at 9am but they let us take him in at 8:50. We dropped him there then realised we were low on petrol and as hospital was 20/25 mins away we needed some! Another stop at this point I am in agony!

We finally set off from Kidderminster to Worcester at 9am. we got to Worcester at 9:17 (i remember that as they told me after he was born!) I said to the midwife that i was gonna poo (john said her face was a picture as she went to check lol) it wasn't it was babys head crowing and at 9:32 he was born! I was in labour for 1hr and 15 mins from start to finish.

I had a student midwife deliver me and she said i was the best patient ever as she only wrote a paragraph of notes on me lol

    Re: Birth Stories

    This is the short version!

Went into see community midwife on the tuesday as i thought i felt funny at 37 weeks. She took one look and sent me to hospital for high b/p and swelling.

Spent whole of tuesday at hosp, bored, had stupid monitor on and was not happy. Stayed overnight and woke up at 7am on Wednesday morn to my waters leaking/breaking, no-one examined me until 2pm as they said they were busy and it probably wasn't waters. Well it was and was sent home to be induced on Thurs morn. ontractions started 1am Thurs morning and were 5 mins apart. Got to hospital at 6ish and was induced. Contractions continued at 5 mins (getting more painful) until 3pm when they were getting every 3 mins and in agony. Had a ve and was only 2cm. Ve is the most painful thing in the world and my cervix had tilted so they had to get a midwife with long fingers! Was so heartbroken i was only 2cm, thought i was roughly nearly ready to have her ause of contraction times. Was given no pain relief, hadnt slept since Monday night and i hadnt eaten since then, was exhausted already. From 4pmish contractions every minute and also on top of each other and cronic back ache, screaming the ward down and terrifying all the other mums to be! They couldn't take me to delivery as there was no room and wouldn't get me any gas and air. At 6pm took me to delivery and i waited in the room while they cleaned up previous blood etc (They were so understaffed and overworked it was awful). Had gas and air for bout an hour till it stopped working. arried on taking it and had a shot of pethidine too, didn't do a thing to me though. Was examined and was still 2cm and babes was back to back. Had to have front waters broken which was pure agony and was on the monitor from then on. The rest is a real blur of gas and air, severe pain, epidural (i was having so much gas and air i passed out twice but wouldn't let it go). Epidural couldn't be topped up because her rate was dropping (roughly 3am ish by now). Kept saying i felt a bit of pushy feeling but legs were still numb as i was having epidural topups but they were too late each time. Midwife said pushing feeling wasn't there yet it was caus of her positon against my back. Was checked again and was "7cm oh no sorry 6cm, oh actually more like 5cm" Great!!! Scalp test thing was about to be done on babes but full head of hair started to appear! I was screaming that i was dying, wanted my bed etc. Failed ventouse, episiotomy, forceps, baby out, was the best feeling of relief ever. Doc was busy and midwife was a senior but couldn't stitch such a big (internal) cut,had to wait over an hour to be stitched while my mum held a sanitary towel on my cut. Lost 850ml blood (2 days later was really ill and dr decided it was actually 1200ml and had blood tranfusion). Was too ill to look after babes properley, midwives didn't help much. Had post traumatic stress for weeks and took me a long time to recover. Felt i had missed out on precious time in those first days as i was so ill. Breastfed her and now she is a little monkey!

I'm sorry to give such a glum story but in my eyes it was horrific. Am terrifed of giving birth again but am sure it can't be that bad again?????

Someones gonna have to write a nice story now to counteract this one!!

    Re: Birth Stories

Claire - wow 1 hour 15 mins. I don't think I would have mad it to the hospital especially with stopping for petrol lol.

cariblue - I am sorry you had such an awful time, my third birth was horrendous, I had post traumatic stress aswell, the midwifes was unbelievably rubbish, I had a different team then to what I had with my first 2.

Donna have just read your post and am in tears. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your post is really close to home as I myself suffered a placental abruption, but it was not concealed. This happened at 29 wks, and fortunatly my baby girl survived but was extremely ill for a while.
Will share my experiences in a bit, when I can xxxx
    Donna your extremely brave xxxxx

    First labour.....
At a/n and I was measuring small for dates at 38wks.
Sent to hosp for a scan, consultant wanted me in the next day 8am!
Arrived but wasn't induced til 11.20am.
Had an epidural 2 hours later.
Baby was suffering each time I had a contraction, fetal scalp monitering was done and bloods taken.
    Room full of doctors
Baby had to be out NOW or c/s, episiotomy, ventouse and a contraction later she was pulled out. Born at 5.20pm. Stiched up by the doc. She had cord wrapped round her head 3 times and was a v blue colour, bless her.
Was a bloody awful experience, nobody talked to me, just over me.

    Second labour...
Woke up at 1.20am needing the loo...or so I thought as when I sat there I couldnt go! I soon realised it was a pain that had woken me up. Every ten mins for half an hour but sooooo painful.
Rang the hospital, they told me to have a bath etc.
I crawled upstairs realising there was now no breaks inbetween the pain it was continuos....OWCH!
Woke o/h up and told him to get me there fast, he had to dress me first though - his pj bottoms, his gray vest, my white summer shoes and my smart black coat - I LOOKED INSANE!!!
Arrived at l/w and they frowned at me for crawling along the corridor, wouldnt believe i was in that much pain. Couldnt get up on the bed, they wanted to ve but I couldnt sit still long enough.
They left me too it, 2 mins later I told o/h I needed to push, he ran off to get help and not long after she was born, at 3.50am - no pain my ar*e, not even gas and air!!!
Had terrible grazes couldnt wee without pain for 3 weeks!!!!
Think I interrupted their tea break or something as it wasnt even busy!

1st pregnancy DD 5 in August
    Due 2nd September 2003
    Born 29th August 2003 @ 09.40am

During the day on Fri 28th I had a light bleed but was in no pain.
This continued until teatime so I rang the delivery suite and was told to go in to be checked over.
My mum went with me as hubby was at work.
I was monitored and was told to push a button if I felt a movement from baby.
The reading showed I was having contractions and after being examined the MW told me I was 1 1/2 - 2cms dialated.
I was rather pleased as was still not in ay pain/discomfort!

Hubby got home about 7 and we had tea as usual and went to bed.
At about 2am I woke in discomfort but it was manageable.
I got hubby to put TENS machine on me and tried to get some rest but it was too uncomfy.
At about 5am I woke hubby up as the contactions were getting painful.
He rang delivery suite and they said to have breakfast and come in.
We leave for hospital about 7am and get to hospital at 7.25.
When I was examined I was 8cm's and I was relieved the end is in sight!
I start on the gas & air as well as keeping using the TENS.

My waters explode with a gush then I feel the urge to push at about 9.25, at 9.40am my little girl was born weighing 7lbs 3ozs :D

2nd pregnancy Ds 2 in July
    Due 16th July 2006
    Born 23rd July @ 02.39am

As I was 4 days early I assumed (wrongly) that 2nd pregnancy would be the same!
I was 6days overdue and getting very impatient!
On the 22nd July me and hubby settled down to watch Lost on DVD and eat Chinese Takeaway. Finally go to bed about Midnight.

Almost as soon as I lay down I felt really uncomfy and kind of 'churny' in my stomach can't really explain it!
After about 1/2 hr I give up and have a bath. Doesnt occur ro me that it might be labour as it wasnt painful like 1st labour.
I wake hubby up at 2am to get him to put tens machine on as I'm very uncomfy.
He times the pains and says they're 45 secs apart and he's going to ring Delivery suite I say it cant be labour as it doesnt hurt enough! I was convinced I'd just got a dodgy tum from the Chinese!

He rings them anyway and they say to go in so I stand up and waters break!
I'm still in bathrobe so have to get clothes on!
We arrive at hospital about 2.30am and as I was walking to the main entrance I got down on my hands and knees because I could feel the head coming
In the middle of the carpark was prob not the best place to give birth!

My husband panics and I remember him asking someone to get him a pushchair instead of a wheelchair lol! :)

I know I'm not going to make it do delivery suite as it was about a 5minute walk and up 2 flights of stairs/lift!
We go to A&E and a Dr shows us into a cubicle, about 60secs at the most later at 2.39am My little boy was born weighing 8lbs 1oz :D
