Smile A good read...

Hi, just thought I'd mention a book I read a few months ago, 'Call the midwife' by Jennifer Worth is an excepional book to have a look at. An amazing account of midwifery in the East End of London in the 1950s. It made me laugh, cry and realise how awful conditions were there at the time, the conditions mums laboured/birthed in and the unfaltering support they recieved from their midwives. The story of Maragret really touched me and I was amazed at Conchitas story, along with her 25 children. No, it's not a typo, she actually had 25 children... Anyone else read it? It's wonderful. Sorry, I'm rambling now... She's tired!

Hi Kate,

I have read this book, and re-read it a good few times, and it always amazes me how much things have changed since then.

This book always inspires me, and I find it really hard to put it down.

The Light In The Window by June Goulding is another brilliant book, it is about midwifery in a home for unmarried mothers, I highly recommend it.

Ditto: The Light In The Window is a real eye opener. I read this before embarking on the course and it is amazing to see how much things have changed.
I was also fortunate enough to spend an evening with Jennifer Worth and now have a signed copy of this book - so I can do no more than say you have exceptional taste in books!

Thanks KS,

I love reading, and this type of book really appeals to me, as while you are reading you are also learning.

I also love history, so this book satisfies on two counts, my passion for midwifery and history
