I'm sadly part of this gang I hate having it, and hate it even more that my GP won't even attempt to do anything to help with it's symptoms.

I have heard of it, I actually prepared a presentation on it when I was doing my access course, until I realised it was almost identical to one another girl was doing who had the condition. So I changed mine to ovarian cancer.

Heres a nice summary katie....

http://www.womens-health.co.uk/pcos.asp

I know that feeling sassy, took me years before I got sorted out and I still have major flare ups, Ive just recently started metformine and have regular normal periods now - quite a shock after years of scary ones then none, then one for 3 months (nice) and dodgy spottyness. Ive been lucky and never had acne or hirsuitism (a tad years ago and had electrolysis), I got the other end of the spectrum crap blood sugars and an ever expanding waistline..... huummpphh.....

If I were you Id take your GP the research on metformine and get on that gal, marvellous stuff. If that fails then change GP its a cruel condition if noone gives you a hand in managing the symptoms.... I know all about that.....

Also try the Gi diet for managing the insulin levels and headaches etc.... that and metformine mean I have an almost normal life these days...

I have a friend has it and she reckoned she only developed it after turning 30 it has took her a long time to have it diagnosied, but she is now hopefuly getting the right sort of treatment!!!
her words were 'i don't mind skipping periods but I hate having the skin of a spotty teenager when i'm in my 30's' and the other thing she can't stand is the feeling of bloatedness all the time. x x
really looking forward to turning 30 if this is what it has to offer lololol (not)
I'm not sure it is completly do to with age but my friend in convinced lol

The periods arn't a problem anymore. I'm on cerazette and thats stopped them My main problems are acne, hair loss, weight gain etc. It did effect my fertitlity. It took me 5 years to become pregnant with with second child, although in hindsight, it was the best thing.

I've just been diagnosed with under active thyroid so thats a bummer too. I'm so fedup with my health at the moment. I'm 27 and on medication to reduce my ^BP and medication for my thyroid

Listen at me, what a whingey cow I am, lol. I'm not usually like this, honest.

Huni, I so know what you mean.... Im the same... and youre not whinging, people dont understand what we have to live with, hence the thread. If we can raise awareness among ourselves then that will help the women we care for, and eachother along the way.
