WooHoo!!! What a book... It made me laugh and made me cry - all the ingredients needed to make a fantastic book, and the fact that it is a true account of midwifery in the 1950's makes it even better!! I would reccommend it to anyone (and have done!). A brilliant read... Go buy it!

xx

I love that book 'chelle and the light in the window, and babycatcher and and and the list is endless, I love those midwifery social history type books. That was one of the reasons I created the book shop, so they are all in one place and newbies who havent come across them can find them and enjoy them too smwife brought a book the other day and then came home to find it was £10 cheaper via the sites bookshop...... theres a lesson in there... lol

Yes TallPoppy, our very own book shop is the best, because for most of the books you have all suggested I have NEVER been able to get them in shops and if they are there they are usually very expensive. I am sure that now its out in paper back it will be just as cheap in our book shop x x

I have just looked in our own book shop and you can get it for £2.97 (brand new)

so at this price and if anyone is looking for a good read I truly recommend this book, x x x

Jennifer Worth is a fantastic woman, and her books only scratch the surface of her experiences. I attended and evening of listening to her relate stories and she had us all laughing and crying at her tales. She is a gifted midwife and a very good story teller. She signed books for us that night, and I will always treasure my personal copy.

And agree with TallPoppy that the 'light in the window' is brilliant. I wept buckets reading that. Its about single women who are sent away to a convent to have their babies and the terrible degredation and hard work they were subjected to, and one midwife's battle to help them.
