Thumbs up I'm going to be a birth partner!

Hi all

I'm quite excited, my friend is currently 40+3, she asked me a while ago to be her birth partner but because I was due 6 weeks before her I said I would need to see how things pan out when my baby was here. Soo, she has another friend accompanying her as well (but isn't sure she will be that supportive) and asked me again yesterday if I would be able to.

So I've said yes, I just need to get pumping and get my supply of expressed milk built up, either that or the other half can bring Aidan to the hospital to be fed and I can nip out every 3 hours, hmm I'm sure it will work out.

I'm really positive about it and hope she gets to have a brilliant experience, she's not very confident in herself so I've been talking through what she would like from her experience and trying to build up her confidence, fingers crossed!

Oh and my order of Baby Catcher arrived this morning so I can't wait to read it!

Hope everyone is ok.

Natalie

Excellent Natalie! I was my sisters birthing partner 9 years ago and I have been hooked ever since! Be ready for it to make your midwifery obsession worse LOL

Be sure to tell us all about it (if its ok with your pal!)

Hi Natalie, that is so great! I was my sisters birthing partner when she had her second baby 3.5 years ago (hospital birth) and her 3rd baby 2 years ago (homebirth). it made me think about doing midwifery and now I have a place at CCCU for Sep09. Last October I was birthing partner for my other sister (hospital birth, her first baby). It is so lovely to be there and support her and enjoy the birth. I found that the blokes tend to be a bit in awe of what is happening so I got to be quite proactive for my sisters, requesting things (birthing ball) and suggesting things that the guys could do to help.
Good luck :o)

hi sassy
I have been a professional birth partner to women who have no friends or family, it is an amazing experience and such a privelage to be there as another person comes into the world. Just remember why you are ther and how this is such an amazing thing to be part of

Thats very true liv2giv but it won't be me at the birth. I'm just a well wisher

I do think though that when we attend any birth we should always feel privaliged. It is such a life changing experience for every woman we should never take our place, whatever that palce is, for granted.
