Red face umm at risk of sounding very very blonde but I guess if you dont ask u dont find out!

Ok so I am very new to this forum but I think its very good.
Right so I realise some people may think I am very thick, blonde, stupid and I dont know but hey you gotta get ur info from somewhere.
So could anyone tell me what you need for the following, its all in the clinical placement pack and I think it looks fab and obviously I know what some things are but could someone explain what each is used for?
A gorgeous baby foot fob watch
A groovy hearts torniquet
A handy pen torch that is funnily enough a pen and a torch (clever stuff!)
A pink pinard
A four colour pen - handy when you need specific inks in practice and great for Uni too!
A set of small scissors that clip to your uniform
An obdisk - obstetric wheel
And you have to do it like 'a dummies guide to clinical placement pack' hehe!!!!

A gorgeous baby foot fob watch - so you can count pulse in rooms with no clocks, write times in the notes etc
A groovy hearts torniquet - for venepuncture
A handy pen torch that is funnily enough a pen and a torch (clever stuff!) - for night shift so you dont wake the ward up when getting about looking for summat, and inspection of perineum after suturing when doing PN visits at home etc used one on SCBU taking obs for head injury
A pink pinard - to listen in
A four colour pen - handy when you need specific inks in practice and great for Uni too! for writing in the notes, uni, blood bottles etc
A set of small scissors that clip to your uniform - cutting off baby tags and anything else you may need to chop
An obdisk - obstetric wheel - to work out EDD, weeks pregnant etc

And you are right if you dont ask you dont know theres never a question too daft here

Firstly, your not stupid hun, if you dont ask you wont know and no question should be too small to ask. So to answer your questions here we go.

A gorgeous baby foot fob watch......for telling the time, taking pulse, whenever you need a watch

A groovy hearts torniquet.......for taking blood

A handy pen torch that is funnily enough a pen and a torch (clever stuff!)....for writing your notes, torch will come in handy if you need to check a womans cervix maybe to check for SROM or PV bleed

A pink pinard.....to listen to the fetal heart

A four colour pen - handy when you need specific inks in practice and great for Uni too! ......you've got that covered!

A set of small scissors that clip to your uniform......cutting name bands off women and babies when you discharge them, apparently your not a proper midwife if you havent got scissors!

An obdisk - obstetric wheel......to check due date and gestation at antenatal checks

This list is only a few thing I can think of off the top of my head im sure theres loads more

Yes, you are blonde (going by your Avatar), but no you're not thick! It's a fair question.

Fob watch - for checking the time. Useful for timing contractions, taking the woman's pulse, working out the baby's heart rate, knowing when to return from your break! etc. It doesn't need to be a cute foot shaped one, but that does look fun and will be commented on, I am sure!

Tourniquet - for taking blood (which midwives do on a regular basis) and later in your training, siting venflons (the thing that a drip goes through.) Love the hearts. I have one just the same! I like it because it is different and people are less likely to walk off with it, when they have borrowed it, as they often do!

Pen torch - good for when you work nights and the lights are dimmed, but you still need to document the care you are giving. Also good for checking the baby's pallet (the roof of the mouth) and for checking the reaction of person's pupils (although this is a very "nursey" thing to do!!)

Pinards - every midwife should be able to listen to the baby's heart with a pinards and not rely on technology! As for pink - why not??

4 colour pen - most documenting is done in black, but things are often underlined in red. Some observations are recorded in green/blue. - That depends on your local practices.

Scissors - I always carry a pair and they are so useful, for all sorts. Things such as cutting tapes, dressings, paper etc. I do clean them regularly.

Obdisk - for calculating when a baby is due. I use mine mainly in antenatal clinic, because there is never one on the desk when you need one!

I have heard that said so many times, when people are asking for a pair of scissors and I produce mine!
