Default StudentMidwife.NET Costs

Id like to know how much it costs to run a website like this?

What are we talking? £1,000? £2,000? I have no idea and dont think many others do.

No idea, but I don't really think its appropriate to ask unless the information is offered.

I think when a charge is being debated whether their is any cost involved is relevant. Though I agree it is not entirely appropriate it is warranted.

I am happy to reply and offer the information as I think its a valid question. I will ask Rob to provide the breakdown of costs as I am at uni inbetween lectures atm and dont have access to any exact figures.

It costs around £200 per year and in some cases less.

If it were in the thousands there is no way Id be running one!!! On a bursary and with 2 kids, not a chance, however much I wanted to.

The aim of the site is to help you with your studies/get a job and broaden your knowledge and also help wanabe's to get onto the course. I personally do not feel it would be ethical to ask the members here to pay that £200 fee for us, its my choice to set this up and maintain it (thankfully with an excellent team). I do not feel comfortable with the idea of asking for money from people who, lets be honest, are struggling enough to make ends meet.

SMS asks for donations, but it doesn't demand or 'need' them. From the beginning, the site owner of SMS has always paid for the bandwidth regardless of whether she got contributions or not. The donations button has always been there, and some people donate but the vast majority do not. Nor are they expected to do so.

I have no problem with the question.
Our set up costs were around £500 all in.

Our ongoing yearly costs are much much less.

Our hosting is supplied by a very reliable and major UK host.
Our hosting is completely free as our host (Wesh UK) is sympathetic to our cause of supporting midwives, coupled with the fact we are a non-profit entity.

We do however pay something - our yearly license renewal fees run to about £120.00 (for our forum software and add-ons).

Thanks

I just do all the tech stuff - the hard stuff is done by J ™ and you lot

I'll remain to be seen around the site as long as everyone is happy with that - I dont know much about midwifery but know a lot about keeping forums running smoothly which is the 'tool' by which everyone can build the support network.

I'll just chime in now and then and do nerd stuff
