Default What not to eat in pregnancy?

I'm doing a project at college which involves a group presentation about the change in attitude and advice surrounding diet in pregnancy and what not to eat and why, how the advice has changed from the start of the NHS until present day... My part is 1990s/2000s... so, guys. Currently, what are expectant mothers advised not to eat? For eg. Is listeria still a problem from pre-washed pre-packaged salads etc?

I do have a list from what I can remember from my pregnancy, anything else would be useful!

From memory following our presentations last week, women are advised not to eat;

Liver, liver pate, or anything containing liver, soft fried, boiled or raw eggs, all eggs should be hard, soft cheeses, shark & sword fish as they contain high levels of mercury, tuna should be no more than 2 portions a week due to high levels of vitamin A, and women who have a history (or family history) of a peanut allergy are currently advised not to eat peanuts, limit the amount of caffiene too.

The food standards agency has a good website that gives you loads of advice it is, www.eatwell.gov.uk

Can't think of any more just now, but if no one else lists other things I will get my stuff out and add some more to this list.

Hope that helps.

Pauline

My faves are shark and marlin, that always cracks me up when I say that one. I think they aren't allowed to eat anything these days are they? Just 5 portions of F&V per day lol.
The differences though, liver was always recommended, and red meat and guinness/mackeson for the old iron stores-seems odd doesn't it?
Also anything unpastuerised, like fresh mayonnaise (please I don't know anyone who has it, are we doing the booking with celebs?) also shellfish if its uncooked, prawns etc , of course the goal posts may move again soon but women were nowhere near as restricted in the 90's as they are now x have a look at journal from the early 90's to see the advice given x

Tuna for its mercury content as its a deep sea fish, not the vitamin A content, thats liver.

I stand corrected, the old grey matter, like the rest of me is rather tired
