What jobs have people had or done before becoming Student Midwives?

I have had lots of completely different jobs before I have been able to become a sm. Some really interesting and some just plain pants but they paid the bills!!

I have been :

a housekeeper
a receptionist
a bar person
a chef
a fire station cleaner
a silver service waitress
a taxi operator
a call centre agent
an auditor
a payroll clerk
a duty manager for a hotel
a car rental manager
an operations and training manager
a lease car manager
a mummy!!

Lots of jobs and most of them nowt to do with midwifery.

What has everyone else done?

Mine are not in any particular order!!

Oh wow, quite a varied ist there, ok here goes with my list;

Carer
Admin assistant at local council
Mum
Cleaner at various places
Domestic at local hospital
Learning support assistant (teaching basic computer skills to adults)
Clerical assistant
Housing management assistant (later renamed relet assistant)
Techincal support clerk
Trainee Clinical Support worker

McDonalds
Morrisons as check-out supervisor
Nursery Assistant presently.

Employment Law Consultant
Artist/Jewellery maker

Okay here goes...

Warehouse assistant (loading and despatching lorries, was best job I had so far!)
Filing clerk
Checkout assistant
Telephone Banking
Student Banking
Floor Manager in call centre (making sure people didn't go to loo etc... nasty job!)
Telephone Sales
Mortgage Sales

And best jobs of all.... mummy, wife and daughter!

Can't wait to be a student midwife and actually enjoy going to work!

Blimey!! We are a talented lot!! AND gonna add midwife to that list one of these days. At least if things ever got tits up at work we should be able to do a lot for ourselves!!

Barmaid

Mmmm - quite a few considering I'm only 20!!

Well, I'm as old as the hills and have always worked since leaving school although some were only part time. In no particular order, I have been:

A secretary
A shop assistant
Departmental Manager
Stock room assistant
cook
Market researcher
Area manager (market research)
UK manager (market research)
Mystery Shopper
Hotel Inspector
Child minder
Silver service waitress
Call centre operator
PA to managing director of a draught proofing company
PA to managing director of a laboratory equipment supplier
Babysitter (before i left school)

Haha - a mum / granny / agony aunt / firend / wife / daughter etc etc...

And years of voluntary work in hospitals and with the Red Cross

Blimey, I must be as old as Mathusala...lol

In order since leaving school:

Shop Assistant,
Factory worker
mummy 1st time round
bar work
mummy 2nd time and final time round lol
bar work
volunteer, in a center with babies and young children with special needs (LOVED THIS JOB)

SM.NET, Super Moderator, what a job, I really recommend this one as you never have to leave the comfort of your own home lol xx
