Default Student Midwife

Hello everyone,

I'm in my 4th year now, qualify in June (eek!) and am studying at the University of Central Lancashire. I'm married with 2 kiddy winks and am stressing out cos I'm writing my dissertation!! (I've got a question if anybody can help in the discussion bit!)

Hoping there will be a job at the end of all this training as I'm sure most of you are! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I love being a student midwife even though it has been the most emotional (and skint) four years of my life and I'm sure that being a proper grown up midwife will be just as brill!!

xxxx

WoW!! Bet you are really excited about starting uni, when I think back to being a first year and what I know now you just learn soooooo much! I don't know what they will do at your uni for theory and placement time but at ours we tend to have one day in uni, 3 days on placement then a private study day. If I have a lot of work on I tend to try and do my placement days at the weekends if I can and leave my hubby to have the kids as this way it free's up more days in the week while kids are at school and so I can get more work done. The only downside is that you hardly see your kids for that week but you just have to try and think thats its only for the short term and you're doing all this partly for them anyway.

Good luck starting uni-I'm sure you will be fine, you will find you're only little routines of juggling work, kids and everything else!!

xxx

Thanks for your reply,

I am excited but nervous aswell, its such a life changing time.
At my uni i will do 2 full weeks on theory then on the 3rd i will be out on community(how scary is that).

I am very organised so i hope that will get me through, im just worried about the academic side, so many essays and having to do placements aswell. I coped with the Access course, i was well ahead with my work, but then i didnt have to do placements aswell.

You will be fine, I know it was a big worry of mine as I did access courses too but just part time. Our course is over 4 years though so we get 12 weeks off in the summer which meant I got to spend some time with the kids although its difficult going back after such a long break. I suppose your course will be more intense as I'm sure you just get 3-4 weeks off if you do the 3 year?? You sound really keen though so you will find a way of coping with it all, most people seem to turn to wine!! heehee!
