Hi Jose
It just asks you to focus on the understanding of the profession and the methods of researching the role. Do I just explain the roles & responsibilities and say who I have spoken to / read etc?

o0o0o0 goodun.

So you can have a good old waffle about what you know about midwifery, great stuff. If it was me Id start with the definition of the role of a midwife (have a look on the NMC website - the rules and standards doc) and then Id say what the responsibilities are (all in the R&S) and Id also talk about conduct - so about ethics, law, confidentiality, consent etc. This stuff is a guided study exercise in the workbook so you may find that useful. I also talk about campaigsn like the RCMs normal birth campaign and one mother one midwife.

List of Midwifery Campaigns

Researching the role, is that how you have researched the role of what a midwife does?

Again, ace. Thats to demonstrate how you go about researching a topic, so will be essential to demonstrate excellence here as it will show how you will work as a student when researching essays, PBL etc.

Here Id show that you have used varied resources like the internet, NMC wensite, RCM webiste, this website and also books and magazines, so if you can hold of a copy of the practising midwife (if you cant let me know and I'll send you one I have 12 billion!) and then show that you have looked at how midwives are kept up to date (again have a look on the news thread on here and say that you have looked at that to see what the latest news is in the profession)......

Hope that helps

I can relate to that, I haven't even started midwifery and my hubby is fed up of hearing about it!

I'm new too, joined yesterday.

The thing (OK, another thing) that I love about about midwifery is that even though it's so competitive to get into, everyone who wants to be a midwife is so friendly and supportive to each other, any other profession, especially one female dominated, all the potential candidates would be too busy scratching each other's eyes out or stabbing people in the back to be supportive.

There is alot of bullying in midwifery and in the NHS generally. One of the reasons I started this site is because I wanted to try to keep that positivity and support for oneanother going right into practice and through the other side to qualifying. In my mind if we can stamp out the bitching and bullying we wont loose excellent midwives who give up because of the environment they have to work in. In my mind there is no need for it.

I agree Josie,

I can't understand why it happens, as you say there is no need for it. All it does is create a bad and miserable working environment which no one neeeds or wants to work in.
