Default 5000 word project topics

hey guys
have got a 5000 word project coming up which will mark my ending of college yay!!!anyway i can choose to do it in either physiology, psychology or sociology, was thinking more along the lines of either physiology or psychology and wanted to relate it to midwifery by picking a topic such as Gestational Diabetes or pre eclampsia, something along the lines of problems that occur during pregnancy and wondered if you lovely guys could give me some ideas to spark my memory pleease!!would be most grateful

o0o0o0o0o PK, this is an interesting one..... the physiology of both preeclampsia and Gestational Diabetes are both complex but there is alot of info on the net and in books about it.

A good way to approach it would be as a case study. You can make it up to illustrate your points.

So youd start off with the booking history so

Ms X 28/40, primip, no significant medical history

Then current presentation

presented to clinic with high bp, Proteinurea, flashing lights then say about the physiology of pre eclampsia - what the signs and symptoms are and how they come to present this way etc

Management

What youd do, so admit her for monitoring/take bloods and 24 hour urine collection etc, medicate if necessary to manage BP etc etc and talk about how youd manage the case clinically so the physiology of preeclampsia and why you would do a 24 hour urine collection, take blood etc

That sort of thing....

thank you apart from not knowing some of the medical terms i kinda guessed most anyway it sounds good but im not sure if pre eclampsia or Gestational Diabetes are really what i would like to do, do you know any other topics on problems that occur in pregnancy that i could do, although im sure pre eclampsia and Gestational Diabetes are very interesting i dont think my heart is really in either of them and i feel this has to be a very good project for me to pass the course!!!thank you ever soo much for your input though, how do you manage to learn all that and remember it???

Hi there.

I did a presentation on Post Natal Depression for a psychology assignment and it was a really interesting topic to research and discuss. I don't know how you'd feel about doing it but it is such a common illness yet people don't like to talk about it!

I did Cystic Fibrosis and all about the background to the illness, and how life expectency has now improved, thus we are going to see trends of women with such a condition now having children of their own (successfully I might add) there are amazing worldwide support groups on the net of women with the condition wanting children or parents of 2/3 children, they now screen for it with the newborn bloodspot (previously known as healprick on day 5 of birth) so they are trying to help, they is also the good old ethical argument that they are trying to errdicate it from society.
I found it really interesting, the websites and info out there is great, my tutors acknowledged I had picked up on a topic that is rarely discussed.
So hows about that one, it doesn't have to be too deep, and the support groups are extremely helpful in providing extra info and links, infact I still go on occasionaly to post on some of the forums xxx

You can still do it hon!! If it's something you're interested in and passionate about then it's a good place to start!
Understand that you may not want to do the same as someone else though...

What about skins-to-skin/kangaroo care? (Not sure what subject it wold fall under although Kate 1981 did do a presentation on it for sociology)

xx

Hiya Princess K,

Just reading this thread and agree with Kate D, if you're interested in PND as a topic then it would be a shame for you not to pursue it. I've just done my ID on PND using biol/psychol but have also incorporated puerperal psychosis.

There's plenty of info on each condition to meet both disciplines, particularly on the pyschol side, and as Kate D offered, I have lots of info to point you in the right direction should you choose this as your topic.

Hey Kate D, noticed you had to do a presentation on PND. I may have to pick your brains about that because i'll have to present my ID once it has been assessed and marked and have so far found little in terms of visual info, pics etc!!! xx
