Question Greetings! and Question?

Hello, I've just registered and had a quick gneeral question so please could I have your views on it? Do you think age is important when universities are looking at applicants? I'm 17 almost 18 and I was unsuccessfull to my university choices after questionnaires/interviews. I think it was because I do not have enough life experience. Any thoughts?

Hello and welcome to the site, no I don't think that at all, they take a broad age range on the course, its just that the competition is so fierce, take a look on some of the threads on here for interviews and personal statements from others who have gained places, why not try to get in through clearing??

No, I don't think age matters at all - as tracy said, the competition is so tough and in my opinion, it's all a numbers game!! I've had 3 unsuccessfuls (without interview) out of 5 choices, waiting to hear from the other two.

We're all happy to help so any questions then just shout!!

Hi Spitfire!

Welcome to the site... it's very addictive. I also agree with the age thing. I don't think it matters cos I think that although you may not have had the life experience some of us have had, you also won't have formed opinions about those life experiences so that can only go in your favour! Good luck with clearing if you go down this route.

hey im your age, no i dont think that age is too important as they seem to like to take people of all ages from 18 righ up to late 40s/50s. sorry to hear you were unsucessfull, which unis did you apply for?? maybe you should ask for feedback from the unis so that you can make your aplication stronger for next year, also get some experience as they would really help!! your personal atatement was obviously good as you did get interviews, but you could possibly improve it for next year as some unis give points for personal satatemnts so by improving it may overall give you more points which could result in an offer. good luck for next year!!you could also post your psrsonal statemnt on here so that others could help you improve it for next year!!!xxxxxxxx

Hi and welcome,
Ditto to what has been said really, if midwifery is what you really want to do then think about getting some work experience or extra study you can do to strengthen your application before applying again for next year. Good luck.

Hi, I also don't think it's your age.

It's a sad fact that the vast majority of people who apply get turned down because of the numbers. You did really well to get interviews.

I hope you apply again next year and have better luck then, or through clearing this year.

You'll get lots of help on this site.

hiya and welcome to the site, i agree with everyone else that age doesnt matter as you may have life experience but it will be different to someone who is older than you, can i ask what have you done in preparation for example have you got any patient care experience or have you read up on current issues by subscribing to what everyone refers to as the bible TPM, sorry if iv gone on a bit but i dont think it would be because of your age, maybe you should ask them for feedback so you no where you went wrong, hope this helps

Hello Spitfire.

Ahuge welcome to the site, I am so sorry you didn't make it this time.

Age should not be a factor affecting applications. There are lots of fab student midwives who don't get in first time around. There simply is not the room.

Huge hugs.

I hope you apply again, did you get any feedback at all?

Best of luck with it all and we are here to support you, whatever you decide

In my view everyone brings something different to midwifery so different ages mean we better represent the women we care for a woman of 17 may feel more comfortable being cared for by someone of your age for example...
