| Hello Tracy! Welcome to the forum! Firstly.. I hope you're enjoying your access course. I've just finished doing the same one and start uni in september! I've found the course so useful, getting me back into education, socialising, links from college to uni etc. I have really enjoyed it! As for your age. Most cohorts range from 18-late 40s. Some even having a few in their 50s. Your age won't hold you back! If anything, you'll have more life experience to use in your PS/interview, more transferable skills for midwifery and a more mature head on your shoulders! Don't put a downer on yourself because of your age. Midwives come in all ages, shapes and sizes! Where will you be applying to? Good luck, lovey Noo xx

| Hi Tracy, a huge welcome form another mature student (only an age thing you understand, I can be very immature when I want to!!) I did access too, and enjoyed it, have you applied yet? Hope you enjoy it here and stick around, there's loads here to help with your application. As a mature student you have a lot of interpersonal skills and life experience to offer, as on the course to get through, self-awareness is a biggie The youngest ladies in our cohort are 18, the oldest I think 49! So don't let your age worry you hun!

| I too wondered about that when I applied a few years ago. It actually helped that I was older (now 42 and a 4th year). The mentors and clinical staff certainly speak to you with more respect than they do the younger students. Life experiences also help you get through the course, which at times can be overwhelming. Good luck with everything. |

| Hi Tracey, welcome. All the best with your application, as has already been said, your maturity just means you have more experience. Also, totally agree with UKcyberchick about not trying to keeo up with the 18 year olds, it makes me tired just thinking about it, I can't believe it was only 10 years ago I could easily go out until 3am and get up at 7am! It would kill me now! It does take more effort to retain info as you get older but you're also more likely to have the will and determination to study harder. Good luck and keep us posted!!
