Hello, my name is Tammy and I am starting my second year of midwifery training. I am in Yucaipa California and am working out of the Birth Center in Redlands. So far I have had 54 catches. I am very proud of that!!!!!
And look forward to the next 2 am call.

I am having trouble completing a paper on the history of midwifery. Can anyone help me with anvance in the 21st century?

Hi Tammy and welcome to the site. WOW - what a lot of catches. Is this a very busy unit? or are you just extremely lucky?

I have never had the opportunity to work in a birth centre, I am based in a consultant led unit, with around 4500 births a year.

I'm sorry I can't help much with your essay, other than to look at what government initiatives are current. Here in the UK, we are trying to work with 'Maternity Matters' which is all bout choice for the woman.

congrats on all your catches, that sounds like a lot!!!
when we write about the history of midwifery in uni, we always mention the 1902 midwives act which brought about regulation. But this is really uk related so not sure that it can help you?

i suppose advance in the 21st century would include the mw expanding professional responsibilities, eg, can take a course and become MW prescriber, can become neonatal examiner, can do ventouse delivery if trained, advanced life support etc etc

not sure if this is the kind of thing you are after?
