To start with you should only need pens (Black, blue and Red), notebooks, folders and some very comfy shoes. It is probably a good idea to get hold of a fob watch and a good anatomy and physiology book along with one midwifery text book.
Other than that - wait until you have started and then see what is essential, what can wait and what can be borrowed from the library. KS x

I've brought a textbook, a dictionary, a planner, a stethoscope and a pencil case. Apart from notebooks, pens/highlighters I don't plan on purchasing anything else before I start as I'm gonna wait til I get there

Is nothing supplied then? I have had no advice from the Uni as to what is needed when you start.
I just assumed it will all be provided.......prob best to have own stuff then such as stethoscope and tourniquet.

No Jo, nothing is supplied. You will recieve a free MIDIRS, the NMC guidelines and various other paperwork (loads!) but we need our own stuff otherwise.
Essentials for me are my fob watch, loads of pens for placement and for uni, stationery stuff paper LOADS of ink cartridges or refills as you'll go through lots of them, printing paper, writing paper, plastic wallets to keep your work and portfolios nice and clean, dividers and decent lever-arch files. Steth and syphg to get practice in for BP's, obstetric wheel. I bought a few books, but loan most of mine form the library. Idid get LTR cards, but don't use them often I have made my own book which helps me to learn things and keep a notepad in my bag for placement to note down experiences, questions and info. A VE guide too, really useful! (from inpractice website)> Comfy shoes for placement, a uni bag (one with wheels some peeps have for when it's full of books!) A decent pc and printer! Office 2003 essential! Erm, box files for all the articles, journals and handouts you get (several forests!!!) room for all of these things (a good desk or table somewhere is a must). Hummm, I think that is it!
