Commenting on the publication of the Financial Services Authority 'Parent's Guide to Money' published today, Louise Silverton, Deputy General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), said: "Having a baby can put huge pressures on people's finances so a common-sense guide such as this will help women and their families to plan and manage their money, so it is welcome and has our support. Having a financial guide is a wonderful idea since parents (especially the younger ones) have no idea what they are taking on!! But yet if the government want Midwives to start advising upon money issues as well then more Midwives need to be recruited, and if there is to be more Midwives recruited then the maternity units need more money! Yet the government is so reluctant to give that money, there is no point in demanding something more from a service that is already so stretched as it is, if they are not prepared to put more money in!!
