Home birth safe but support services needed

news provided
by the RCM
Responding to research on home births published today (2 April 2008) in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dame Karlene Davis, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said: "The research is welcome, but it is far from conclusive. Women planning a home birth should not be worried, because with the proper support and resources in place a home birth is safe.

Well I know I would rather have a homebirth, less likely to request every form of pain relief and deal with it all much better, and more comfortable and relaxed in my home surroundings.
Plus you get the added bonus of having 2 midwives whereas in the hospital quite often its so busy, shortages of staff etc... mean you don't even get 1-2-1 care, so yup def' homebirth would be my option.

Me too. I was lucky to have normal deliveries in hospital and any other option was never offered, not even a birthing centre!!

Certainly not home either. I was healthy through my pregnancies, good Hb's etc, my only prob is asthma that sometimes gets worse in pregnancy, but was never a prob during labour. I wish I had known more then, and at least had it offered to me.
