RCMMore than ninety percent of final year midwifery students are struggling to find a job, a new survey published today by the Royal College of Midwives reveals. The survey also showed that 58 percent of midwifery students were concerned about getting a job. The survey comes as the midwifery profession is moving into a new era as an all graduate profession. The RCM's Regional Officer for Northern Ireland Mary Cadell said: "Irish midwifery students are telling us that they are mired in student debts and childcare costs. Our student members have told us that they are facing considerable personal financial problems while they are training to be midwives. What message is this giving to potential student midwives who are caring for the next generation of mothers in Northern Ireland?"
