I hate referencing too, but, as horrible as it is, I would really encourage you to do it as you go along. In the long run, it takes much less time and panic, and reduces the possibility of being called up for plagiarism. In my first year, I always had a huge stress at the end of writng my essay when I started doing the reference list, and trying to go through the main body of text to make sure it was all consistent. Now, it's the first thing I do, before I write a word. I get all my books and journals piled up and do the reference list. It's also a great motivator to get going with your assignment, cos you feel like you've accomplished something already, and you know which sources you are going to use. Speaking of which, maybe I should start thinking about doing this myself with my assignment which I have been putting off for way too long now! Oops.

Something that always gets me thinking about my assignments is when a few girlies get together and talk an assignment through, sharing tips and ideas. It's always scares me into starting an assignment when someone else admits they've done loads too! I guess this isn't a great tip, leaving it till everyone else has nearly finished! Scrap that! But definitely have a get together and share pointers, good textbooks and articles and discuss the learning outcomes!

No you are not alone! I blunderd through a 2.1 degree, but haven't done any written work in 5 years, so it's taking some motivation i tell ya! I have 2000 word to write in a week and a half. So that's only 1900 now
Doesn't help that the Education Library at our site is CR*P, low stock, outdated books, and what is in stock is forever on loan. It's really bad. And im sure it will reflect in my written work/referencing. |

I'm always behind at starting essays, prefer the exams-even though my tummy doesn't!! The referencing is hard work isn't it? Do you do the harvard style? We get a handbook on ref's so you can refer to it. I now type my essay and reference while I'm doing it, I type the whole reference in on extra word page, then the shortened version for the text I put all of them on a clipboard at the beg so I can keep just clicking on them to insert as I type I find that really helps me-hope it might help someone else, my friend at uni told me that one, as I'm naff with computer lol x

for me, it depends on what the essay is. Am writing one at the moment which is not soo hard as the subject matter is interesting....it's just a case of knuckling down and once i do and find the time i dont find it too much of a stress.....
The other one on the other hand...well, dont even get me started. Hate the title, hate the module, hate everything about it! Therefore words written = a big fat 0! oh dear, back in 1 week and not a lot to show for it ![]() x |

Oh, I'm such a procrastinator that I always wait until the very last minute then panic and get no sleep for a few days writing my essay. As far as referencing, I was taught a system in high school that actually really helps me but is complicated to explain (basically, we spent a whole semester working on one essay). It involves a lot of index cards, too. Not great for procrastinators, but if I actually start when I first get the assignment, it's a pretty stress free process, lol.

thanks tracyb, that's really kind of you. May well take you up (and others!) on the offer. Just need to get my head around the easier(!) essay first and then seek inspiration for the boring one. Basically the essay is about working in a Person Centred Care way (read as woman) in an interprofessional situation. I'm all for interprofessional learning and all that, but I just find the modules too fluffy and there is nothing tangible to grab hold of...iykwim?
![]() Therefore starting the essay or thinking of a good or bad example of PCC in a situation that didn't involve just madwives is quite hard.........actually it isn't when I really think about it with a positive attitude....it's just the motivation that we are all talking about to actually get going i spose once i lose the attitude and focus a bit more I may well come back to you tracyb! x |
