"lets start at the very beginning
a very good place to start"
NNNNNOOOOO!!!!!
I always find it helps to start in the middle!! I usually write the introduction last, as you only know what you are introducing once you have written it!
As you are going to write about 3 different subjects i would start by writing a paragraph or two (depending on your word count) about clinical placements
Then write your next couple of paragraphs about you next sub subject etc etc until you have lots of little paragraphs which will be the main body of your text
THEN once you have those, you need to work out the order they will go in, and then write linking sentences at the end of the first sub subject to link to the next
eg
clinical placements blah blah blah blah. After finishing my practice placement period i returned to University and continued academic theory in anatomy and phyisiology and clinical skills (for example).

The area of clinical skills is something that i blah blah blah

(hope i'm not confusing you and making it more complicated than it needs to be??!!)

once i have linked all the paragraphs together, i would then write the conclusion, summarising what i have said in the main body of the text. And then i would write the introduction eg
This essay will explore the process of application to the university, commencing on the BSc Midwifery programme as a first year direct entry student, the experience (or my experience depending on whether you have decided on 1st or 3rd person) of my/the first semester and a detailed look at practice placement clinical time.

obviously, this is all just an idea, as cant really remember what your essay is about! sorry. but hopefully might have given you a clue where to begin though? Obviously everyone writes an essay differently and so you might get 5 or 6 different processess suggested, just pick the one that makes most sense and sits most comfortably with you.....thats what i did!

and remember the golden rule of thumb to writing an essay
SAY WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SAY (introduction)
SAY IT (body/analysis part of essay)
SAY IT AGAIN (conclusion)

good luck, feel free to ask if confused aout anything
xxxxxx

I have to write a reflection about a group report we are having to produce, it is part of our tripartite thingy....eg presentation, assignment reflection.

I am really worried about this reflection, we have to write it about our part in the group report, how we felt it went etc etc. I am ok with that in theory, but, we have to reference it, how the heck do you reference your thoughts and feelings????? We have to write it in the third person too.

I have printed off an example of Gibbs reflective cycle, and I get the idea of that, but it says nothing about using references.

I have to pass this, cos if I fail any part of this work (assignment, presentation and reflection) then the group as a whole fails.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

you dont reference the thoughts and feeling part.... you mainly reference the analysis, conclusion and action plan sections.... they are usually written in 3rd person where as the description, feelings and evaluation tend to be in 1st person.

your analysis is where you look at specific points you have picked out from the first half of the reflective cycle... so if you were never being listened to you might find articles on group dynamics, or maybe even on deciding what to do.... the brainstorming side of it etc... so books and articles on group work, communication skills and team building etc

this was a reflective account i wrote a few years ago for my dissertation

good luck with it

Thanks for that Lulu,

I think I get the idea a bit more now. Thanks also for the link, it was a really good reflection and very interesting to read.
