Default Does this make sense please? skin to skin assignment

I have finally made a start on my assignment, but I am not sure if what I have put reads properly. Please can someone cast their eye over it and put me right if it doesn't? Also do you think I need to explain the 'Baby Friendly Initiative more? It was my plan but..... Thanks x

What role does the midwife play in providing skin to skin?

This assignment is going to discuss the role the midwife plays in providing skin to skin following delivery. It will firstly consider the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF joint programme called “The Baby Friendly Initiative”
It will then examine what skin to skin is, who it can be offered to, and the reasons it is recommended. It will finally consider some of the difficulties a midwife may face in providing skin to skin.

In 1992 WHO and UNICEF launched a joint programme called “The Baby Friendly Initiative”. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage maternity hospitals to introduce a plan entitled “The Ten Steps To successful Breastfeeding”

It wasn’t until 1994 that the Baby friendly Initiative was introduced into the United Kingdom, following this implementation hospitals had the chance to work towards gaining a baby friendly accreditation. (UNICEF 1995)

Thanks Tiffany,

The fact it reads well is a start lol. I am paranoid about this assignment and reflection I have to do, cos if I fail either part of it, then my trigger group fails too, talk about pressure.

MM

Morning lovely, dont think Ive said Hi to ya yet today!

Your introduction needs to be a lil bit longer. Sling in a quote or two to give the reader a taste of how you are going to approach the main body of the essay. It reads very well I usually write the introduction last as then I have the main body arguments to pull from. I usually have an idea of where Im going with the essay, then get stuck into the main themes and then link them all up and then finish off the intro last, that way you are properly introducing your assignment to the reader as you know whats in it at that point! As long as you have a good plan you can write the essay in any order you like

Morning Hunni,

That makes perfect sense, thank you. I will leave the introduction as it is for now, I can always add to it, scrap it whatever later lol.

I do have a plan for what I want to include, and if all goes to that plan it should flow ok. I just have to keep in mind the limited words I have available to put what I feel needs to be included, if that makes sense?

Do you think I should include much more on the baby friendly bit? I am not sure how much detail I should include with that, I wasn't planning on putting too much, but don't want it to seem 'out on a limb' either.

I would perhaps explain what skin-to-skin is first as this is what your assignment is based around, making sure you include work by Suzanne Colson on biological nurturing, then move onto Baby Friendly etc. Bring in NICE, Every Child Matters etc.
Good luck, it is a huge topic for just 1000 words.

What about the step, thats step 4 isnt it??? I may be wrong but you may aswell just discuss that step alone if thats your focus, it might be easier as there is so much info to trawl through!!! You'll have to discuss initiation at delivery, problems with c/sections potential obstructions to bonding that the midwife needs to overcome xx

Thanks for the advice Kentish,

I did toy with the idea of starting with an explanation first, but felt that starting with the baby friendly thing made more sense. That seems to be where the whole skin to skin thing came from as far as I can find out.

I will include NICE, and I will have a look at the Every Child matters and biological nurturing one, I think I have something on that to be honest in the info I have collected.
