and it's not a midwifery based one either. It's part of the professional learning part of the course, the Skills for Professional Learning module.

Have really struggled with it, mainly i think because it is my first one and i'm paranoid i'm not going to 'make the grade' so to speak!

The assignment is how i searched for information on a health related topic. Have all my info etc now just need to write it up and this is where all the fun starts...................!

First we're told to write it in the third person, then on the grapevine we hear first person. Then in our last core lecture we're told we can if we like do the intro in the first, first part of main body in third, and the rest in first!!!! ARGH!!!!!! lol or all in third..... Well i've decided to do it all in third. But am stuck on whether some words are 'allowed' in the third person. so thought i'd ask you lovely people!!

So the words i'm stuck on are this, was and will! I'm sure more will pop up!

Yes, you can use was and will in third person. e.g. in this study xxx was employed/used/considered, yyy will be (something!)

Yeah those are fine, and if you want to put your own bit in experiences etc.. you can use "the author" but I don't like that so I use from personal experience, or as seen inpractice etc... Its difficult until you get used to it, but its easier to stick to 3rd person as you know you won't go far wrong xx

Haha, words are the bain of my life, I always end up with too many. I usually have to cut about 3-400 words off a 3000 word essay.
SPL was a good essay - we didn't see the point in it at first, but it got us used to researching and that is what you will be doing for the next 3 years.

It was also a good way to learn about appendices and writing in the third person. I got a great mark for mine, so if you want any help, just pm me.

I wrote it in the third person and pondered for a long time on pressing the send button from webmail. Then we were told in the seminar on thurs that the researcher doesnt count as the third person, doh. Dnt worry about it too much tho as it is only looked at rather than marked we were told. BTW im Sarah Broome-Smith x

I guess your talking about the sumative i have got it all to be written in the third person although it is our choice to write in the first person int he introduction. I know was really confusing in that core lecture. I would just stay safe and do it in the 3rd x

Got my formative back on this one and it's not tooooo bad! Am quite pleased with it, although have a few things to alter on it. Have to sort out my referencing to so may need a wee hand with it.......................... xx
