A midwife has a duty of care to ensure the wellbeing of both mother and baby during the postnatal period. This may involve assistance with feeding, and baby care, to routine observations, palpation to ensure the uterus is involuting correctly, support. Routine enquiry as to Lochia loss, micturition etc. Checking wounds for cleanliness and adequate healing etc.

Is that what you mean?

Thanks I think that is what I meant. I was not sure what it involved. I am happy you took the time to reply.

Another example of "duty of care":

I am a Christian and as such I do not care for women during the process of termination, because I am a conscientious objector. However, I have a duty of care to the woman. So, if there were an emergency (eg she were to haemorrhage) obviously I would step in and help. - This is my duty of care.
