Default teenage pregnancy and social exclusion

Hi, Just been handed and essay to do for next semester. We have to discuss a socially excluded group and what is available for them and what the midwife's/health care professional's roles and responsibilities are with regards.

I think I've decided to do it on teenage parents. Now I know there's loads of stuff out there on the web and in various books, but just wondered if anyone had anything that they'd found really good around the same sort of area.

Any suggestions welcomed.

I think the DoH teenage pregnancy strategy should have loads of good info in it for you. and a great list of refs in the back for you to pick and choose from!

maybe look at the social exclusion task force (part of the cabinet office) website - they have lots on social exclusion and may have info on teens? I'm doing social exclusion for my OU course at the mo so its all fresh in the old memory!
good luck x

Just did an assignment on teenage mums and the support available in my area. Home Start and Sure start have some info but there's a BJM (it has rubber rings on the cover) with research into why teen mums don't access ante natal care, why infant mortality is so high in this age group and similar sort of stuff. Also I had a lovely email from Lorna Waite at the Whittington NHS Trust where they have a unit geared towards teens here is the address Lorna.Waite@whittington.nhs.uk. They were really lovely. Don't know if this helps but I hope so!
