| I remember reading some interesting stuff about this issue when I was doing a couple of assignments... one on social inclusion and one on diabetes. If I was doing this assignment I might create a little case study, put it in an appendix and discuss the issues in it.... an example might be: A woman, Jane, has type 2 diabetes, which is well controlled by a healthy diet and exercise. She has an annual check up with her GP and four times a year she has a blood test. She considers herself to be healthy, despite the fact that even with well-controlled diabetes, she is vulnerable to many significant problems later in life. She becomes pregnant and suffers from morning sickness. Her blood sugars become very difficult to control, and she has to start taking medication to stabilise them, regularly check her blood sugars, which she did not have to do before, has hypoglycaemic episodes and has frequent medical appointments and is admitted to hospital on one occasion. Jane feels overwhelmed by it all and it has had a huge impact on her activities of daily living, particularly at work. Combined, these factors have a negative impact on her feelings towards her being pregnant, as she sees the pregnancy as the root of the problems, and subsequently she has trouble bonding with her baby. Jane has also noticed that since her diabetes has become difficult to control, her relationship with her partner has changed, and he seems to have become quite jealous of all the attention she is getting, and has started to be controlling and argumentative. I know this doesn't really talk about a social class but I still think that this would be quite useful topic because it links in loads of stuff that seem to me to be key issues, like perception of health, holistic health, vulnerable groups, factors that affect health ie control, maintaining every day activites, relationships, the list goes on, and it is also relevant to midwifery
