Default Has anyone used Lesley Page's EBC model?

Hi,
I am trying to write my assignment at the mo. It has to use a decision-making framework. I have chosen to use Lesley Page's Five Steps of Evidence-Based Midwifery.

My topic is regarding active versus expectant third stage, and I have bags of material to use.

The problem is with the first stage; finding out what is important to the woman and her family. I know its about trusting relationships and previous experiences, but my mind has gone completely blank and I can't get any further. Can anyone offer me any help with what to include in this section....Please!

Many thanks,
KS x

Do you mean, why would the woman choose to have physiological 3rd stage?

It's from her book 'The New Midwifery: Science and senditivity in practice' (2000), starting on page 9.

The Five Steps of Evidence Based Midwifery
  • Finding out what is important to the woman and her family
  • Using information from the clinical examination
  • seeking and assessing evidence to inform decisions
  • talking it through, and
  • reflecting on outcomes, feelings and consequences
Thought this was a good one to use as it focuses on the midwifery model of care. It's just my poor old brain, not working efficiently!
Hehe

Don't know if this is any use as part of a supporting reference, using Sackett 1996 and their concept of the evidence triad or maybe evidence based triad, where evidence based practice originally comprised of recent evidence, the woman's values and expectations and the practitioner's skills. You can find the reference for this from Soo Downe's book Normal Childbirth and Denis Walsh's book too, in fact you can google Sacket 1996 the evidence based triad.

I suppose with finding out what is important to the woman, you need to consider any cultural or religious expectations, her previous experience of the third stage and in an indirect way, what her vision of how her labour and birth will be.

Clear as mud, eh?
