perception of pain

hiya

as you know my assignment is driving me crazy been here for 4 hours and not wrote a thing.

do any of you wonderful guys know any good references to womens perception of pain and coping with pain i only need a brief outline as its part of my intro and ive allowed 300 words for it.

do you think the gate theory of pain (pain pathways) is relevant for an assignment on non pharmological pain relief thats really puzzling me as im unsure whether to put it in

Hiya groovychick,

We just covered the gate theory in an essay, i think it is a really good example of a pain theory. I used my own experiences of labour along with distraction and imagery in my essay ( will look at my notes for more if you want ??)

this essay is really doing my head in lol

ive chosen hydrotherapy for definate but i may also use TENS, massage, may use mternal positions but so far i can only find the pros to positions and i need to discuss it

Ok girlies this is what i've got,

You are already aware of the gate control theory so i wont talk about that.
In my class handout from psychology i have a bit on 'specificity of pain (Von Frey, 1895)' and pattern theory of pain (no authour?).
Then 'pain managemnt' (Carroll 1993) and some stuff on behavioural approaches to controlling pain (Fordyce 1973)

Not sure if this is helping. Would you just google the names to see if they are any good ??

The only other stuff is on redifinition, distraction and imagery.

So prob not much help ???
