Default How many essays?

Does anyone know roughly how many essays you have to write in each year?

And I know there will be some practical assessments and presentations, but what else do you have to do?

Thanks.

every uni is different!
at ours we do roughly 4 essays per term and clinical practice. So over the whole year this is 8 essays (3000 words each), 20 weeks of clinical practice and then presentations as well which are not normally marked, but is extra work all the same

We have 3 modules per year, and 2 essays for each module (except our 3rd module of first year we have no essays but an exam), OSCE's in the first year, one presentation per year and a poster presentation in the 3rd year as well as a dissertation. All are marked (but first years marks don't count, but we obviously need to pass to stay on the course).
Obviously we have to pass our PBA's (placement based assessments) too, for each placement.

You aren't thick ..lol.
It stands for Objective Structured Clinical Examination.

''Preparing for OSCEs is very different from preparing for an examination on theory. In an OSCE, clinical skills are tested rather than pure theoretical knowledge.
It is essential to learn correct clinical methods and then practice repeatedly until one perfects the methods.
Marks are awarded for each step in the method hence it is essential to dissect the method into its individual steps, learn the steps and then learn to perform the steps in a sequence.''

At Hull uni it sounds like we've got it quite easy, cos we only ever have 1 essay/exam per module, and usually only 1 or 2 modules per term. So we've had a total of 5 essays, 1 dissertation, 3 exams and 1 osce. Or thereabouts.

as ollybolly said its different for every uni, we haven't had any essays this year but we have had 2 4000 word portfolios which assess our development in practice- you have to write about episodes of care in an academic way ie. citing references.

We have also had one OSCE, a drugs calculations exam, an anatomy and physiology exam and a 3000 word logbook analysing 3 commonly used drugs.

On top of this we also had a poster presentation, a seminar and a presentation to give.

I suppose the workload does seem pretty hefty now i've written it but it wasn't all that bad- hope i havent put you off!!!

good luck and keep us posted xxx
