Ambulation

pronounced am-byoo-lay-shun

To walk about or move from place to place.

Women in early labour are encouraged to 'ambulate', walk, pace, move around to work with gravity to assist descent of the fetal head.

The animation below shows the descent of the fetal head in relation to station.
