depends on your circumstances really.
Are you single
if not, what is your joint household income
how much is your childcare
how many children

etc etc
you know, the usual type of thing.
look at the NHS bursary website for guidelines

If you're not single I think you really need to have a very low household income or very very very high mortgage and childcare costs to be able to claim childcare allowance. Its all means tested and the threshold is pretty low.. Us for instance... £1300 per month income with £850 a month mortgage will get jot.. regardless of the fact the nursery bill would be a furth £250-300 per month leaving only £200 for other bills, running cars etc!

Hello!

When do you find out what they will offer you? I don't want to apply for midwifery until I know that it's going to be financially viable. I've emailed them and asked them for a rough idea - I suppose that's all I can do for now!

they wont actually process your application and give finalised money details until you have a place!! you will get a letter with rough estimate on it, but nothing is finalised until your begin.
Imogen, just phone them up, you could be waiting ages to get an email reply.
It is an awkward situation to be in as you need to know money to budget for your course, but most people just apply, hope for the best and work it out as they go along. There are hardship funds that you can apply to if needs be, and I always have our Student services induction week welcome words ringing in my ears when the going gets tough "we don't like anyone to drop out for financial reasons, and we will do our best to help you if we can"

Only mortgage/rent and pension/life insurance is taken into consideration.

We're planning on living on pasta and beans if i get into uni.. unless we can take a mortgage break for yr 3

Hello Jools,

Really hard isn't it! My hubbie is self employed and could take home anything between £600 and £1800 a month BEFORE TAX and then we have a mortgage of £950 and two in nursery of £800 a month without my earnings it could be disasterous!
I get childcare tax credits at the moment - do you know if you can still get these when on a bursary?
If you find anymore out I'd love to hear - I'll let you know if I find anything super important!

Im quite worried like you about how we can cope without my income, but ive been told student loan repayments after are not too bad? i dont want to give up my dream just hope hubby is understanding!!!!he quite likes baked beans lol

you will still be entitled to child tax credits, but only one lot of childcare help. So you can get working family tax credits or NHS bursary chilcare allowance, but not both.
