MM - it's degree course but we were definately told we wouldn't get a student loan as we were getting a bursary... Strange... Will look into it!!

Thanks Kate... thought I'd not heard right there!

We were definitely told we were NOT eligible for student loans, just the bursary... how can people afford to do the course AND pay a mortgage AND run a house AND eat on so little money???????? Is the bursary a standard figure country-wide? Or do each university have a specific amount?

I thought it was a set amount for each person in each uni (Except London where London Weighting is taken into account) but not 100% sure... I'm confused...

They said at Cardiff that because we were bursaried, we were ineligible for a student loan.

I believe everybody gets the £5,700 (or whatever amount it is) but if you have dependents there is a means tested extra amount you can get but i'm not really sure.

We down 'ere get the bursary and loan. The only exception is those already completing a degree.

It must be a local authority thing
