Does anyone know if there is a credit check for the student loan? I know my credit rating is poor due to a bit of over spending in my younger days

I dont think so or i dont think i would have been allowed one....anyone else know for sure?

Ummmmmmmm. I think they check to see if you have one already or owe them from before etc but I dont think they credit check as its a govt scheme that all students are entitled to (course permitting etc) as it was put in place once they scrapped the student grants.... if they credit checked everyone then I expect a fair few % of students wouldnt get one and then the unis loose students, places dont get filled, uni's loose money etc etc

So I doubt it.

my credit rating is utterly pants, and I get it, no probs

So don't worry, each student is entitled to it, providing they fit the eligibility criteria (i.e no previous degree)

Phew, was thinking the same thing!!!!! My credit is really bad, thank god be able to get student loan because childcare expense alone is gona cripple us!!!

Just out of interest... in my interview at Bangor Uni, they told us we'd get a bursary of approx £5700, but that we weren't eligible for student loans... is that right? If I get accepted, would I really have to live off that amount?

Is that for the diploma? For the degree you get a bursary and a student loan...depending on your circumstances.
