| Does anyone know if there is a credit check for the student loan? I know my credit rating is poor due to a bit of over spending in my younger days ![]() ![]()

| Ummmmmmmm. I think they check to see if you have one already or owe them from before etc but I dont think they credit check as its a govt scheme that all students are entitled to (course permitting etc) as it was put in place once they scrapped the student grants.... if they credit checked everyone then I expect a fair few % of students wouldnt get one and then the unis loose students, places dont get filled, uni's loose money etc etc So I doubt it.

| Categorically, no. my credit rating is utterly pants, and I get it, no probs So don't worry, each student is entitled to it, providing they fit the eligibility criteria (i.e no previous degree)

| Just out of interest... in my interview at Bangor Uni, they told us we'd get a bursary of approx £5700, but that we weren't eligible for student loans... is that right? If I get accepted, would I really have to live off that amount? |

| Is that for the diploma? For the degree you get a bursary and a student loan...depending on your circumstances.
