But they shouldn't for the non means tested bit. If they are taking parents income into consideration that surely means that they are then means testing it? I don't know how the hell they work it out, the damn thing gets paid back so why the differing amounts?! How annoying.

They arent taking their income into account though, its the mere fact that it is deemed to be much cheaper to live with parents than anywhere else they will see it as no utility bills etc stinks as far as i am concerned cos not everyone has parents who are willing or able to help out

It worked pretty spot on for me when I did it last year. I get around £10,000 ish for me, 3 kids and hubby (who is on a low wage) plus £6000 ish towards childcare (which calculator doesn't work out, so I wasn't sure what I would get for that till I got my notification). I won't get so much towards childcare this year as youngest will be starting full time school, so will need afterschool club rather than fulltime childminder (thank goodness).

"I don't understand why living with parents would make a difference when its non means tested?"

if you're doing the degree everything appears to be means tested i'm afraid

I am doing a degree, and my loan is not means tested.
But as others have said, it seems to differ if living with parents or not.
