| £5983 looks too high to me... Are you including the loan in that figure? No you don't get any money for being old.. mature students allowance went tits up with the age discrimination laws. I'm not sure you'll get dependents allowance for the children unless you're a single parent or part of a couple on a VERY low wage. If your partner works, they're dependent on him and not yourself.

| I was told I would still get dependents allowance even though my OH works so would still apply for it. I agree the bursary looks a bit ambitious but it varies for everyone so might be right, depends on your income.

| Tbh, you need to ring them up and ask directly. And you really don't know how much you're going to get until you get there and recieve the final decision (it is also subject to review at any time) Mature students allowance- we get it, as we started in 2007, it is no obsolete since this year. You do get dependants allowance, irrespective of partners income. You are eligible for childcare expenses also, these cover 85% of childcare costs These are all dependent on your partner's income 25% of council tax is a given unless you have an adult of 18 employed in your household. I get enough to cover rent, no childcare allowance though at present (long story) So now it is £750 per month + tax credit (my bit) and the student loan in Feb, June and November. OH is on minimum wage. I pay the rent and bills and childcare, he buys food (when he can afford it) It has dropped significantly though form what it was and don't want to go into details on here. pm me if you need any other info. We are all managing on this amount, others more or less. It is however a huge struggle financially. The bursary calculator IMO gave a completely different figure to the award I actually got.

| I don't pay council tax as I am the only person living in the property, so as a single person and a full time student I get full discount.

| I was told dependants allowance is means tested... so you WILL NOT GET IT if partner is on much of a wage. 25% is only if there IS one adult working in the house. If there is more than one adult working, you'll get no discount. If you are the ONLY adult in the house, you will pay NO council tax
