We also had venepunture and cannulation - forgot those lol

At UCLAN, we don't do these, we do a VIVA in our 3rd year (its a 4year course) we have to do assessments in practice though, the midwives do them we have to do them at Primary, Practice then at Proficient level, things included are
Antenatal booking
Antenatal assessment
Postnatal assessment
Neonatal assessment
Vaginal examination
Total care of a woman in labour
Delivery assessment
Drug administration
Instrumental delivery
and I think thats all of them, we have to do them all as soon as we feasibly can, but by end of 4th year before we go on our elective they all have to be done.

For our VIVA we revise along the guidelines of the ALSO (advanced life support in obstetrics) course, so we cover adult and neonatal life support, APH, PPH, breech and Shoulder Dystocia.
However for our actual VIVA we know it will either be breech or Shoulder Dystocia, there are 2 examiners in the room, it lasts for approx 25-30mins and you have to state everything you know about the topic, risk factors you name it etc....
Then you perfrom a simualted delivery and talk through it throughout!!
It wasn't as bad as I thought considering I had revised Shoulder Dystocia word word word, then walked into the room and there was a bottom showing through the pelvis-GREAT I thought!!!
