I thought it would be useful to compile a list of OSCE topics that are likley to come up. I know many of you wont have had any OSCE's yet but when they are coming up the first thing that springs to everyones mind is whats likley to come u and what shall I revise!

Obviously dont rely just on the contents of this thread for your OSCE revision list! as all Uni's assessment clinical skills differently...

Year One

Blood pressure
Abdominal Palpation
blood spot test
Venepuncture
Administration of medicines


Year Two

Vaginal Examination
Interpretation of CTG
APGARS


Year Three

PPH
APH
Shoulder Dystocia

We have our first lot of OSCE's in May. We are covering

Hand washing
Blood transfusion
IM injection
Basic life support
Urinalysis.

year three - also neonatal resus, maternal resus, breech, cord prolapse, - probably more but I'm fritzed

Do you not do first aid and basic life support?

We do CPR but its statutory and not usuallly in an OSCE... OSCE's are for midwifery clinical skills.

Well its still a clinical skill and as Uni's do things differently that may well be the case but I know at my Uni its all midwifery based, as far as im aware...

Basic life support/CPR is an OSCE in our 1st year (as on my list ) so it may well be at other uni's too.

Im now racking my brains to think if it was an OSCE in my year one lol sorry freefall i missed that one on your list! thanks for pointing it out!

Smwife, osce's are clinical exams, many unis dont start them til year 2 i think, but more are getting us in the swing of things by getting us to give them a bash in year one.

They assess clinical skill competencies, you have to perform a skill like venepuncture on a model and answer questions. I actually really like them
