| Gosh! I think I would have fallen flat during that test, and I've been qualified a number of years! We never had a practical exam like that. Do midwives get tested like that across the country nowadays, or is it just your Uni?Well done for getting through it.

| I think we get the results in June.. I was lying in bed last night thinking 'should've said this or that'. As for Loveset, it's a maneuver carried out during delivery of the breech baby. Following delivery of the scapula, the midwife holds the bony pelvis and rotates the baby to allow each shoulder to deliver under the symphysis pubis. However the midwife should help deliver each arm manually (which I forgot), and following delivery of the arms it's hands off the breech once more. I tried to find a suitable link but I couldn't find one sorry. |

| Hi Cinders, I was waiting for you to reply, 'cos I didn't want to jump in. I found a link about breech delivery, with some useful diagrams here. It doesn't actually mention lövsett's, but you explained it beautifully. It's actually a subject that annoys me, in the way that we are taught. They say "hands off the breech", but it is so far from a hands free delivery! I wish we were taught to be with the woman on all fours. From the photo's/videos that I've seen of breech births in this position, they really are "hands free". It seems like a far more natural way for the baby to be born, especially when it is in the breech position. May be this is a topic that could be debated on another thread....! Well done for getting through your Viva. I think it was quite unfair that you were given breech delivery. I've never had to deliver a breech baby, although I do know the theory. A topic like APH, PPH, PIH, twins is far more useful and relevant to our every day practice. ![]()

| Didn't wish to hi-jack this thread, so I've started a discussion about vaginal breech deliveries here.
