Default Drug calculations

Can anyone please explain to me an easy/easier way to learn about drug calculations?

I am worried sick that I am going to get this in my clinical skills exam and I just don't understand it at all, maths is my worst ever subject at the best of times?

Thanks in advance.

volume required= dose required X volume of stock solution
stock strength

volume required = what you want X what it's in
what you've got

grams -milligrams 0.1G to 100 MG

Milligrams to micrograms 0.1 G = 100MCG

calculate IV flow sets (varies according to giving set used)

volume in Mls X drop factor
_

time (minutes)

Thanks very much for that smwife,

I have printed it out so hopefully I can learn it in time for my clinical skills exam. I am bound to get this as it is the one I am weakest at lol.

So will do a few examples

and we'll see how we go....

1. A solution of 100mg/ml, how many mls to give 250 mg?

So we calculate by 250
100 X 1 = ?

250
100x 1 = 2.5mls

2. Paracetamol syrup, 30mg/ 5ml how much syrup for 18 mg?
18
30 X 5= 3mls

This one is for you Missy

Metronidazole 500mg/100ml bag how much for 200mg?

?????

Divide 500 by 200 and then multiply by 100

500
