Not necessarily. If you say about having kids at interview be prepared not to say that you know how they feel as you have experienced it, you haven't experienced their labour. But that's what you will get across to them, that from having your own you know every pregnancy and birth is different. Thats what I had to do, I only mentioned my family in my PS to emphasise my time management skills, but they wanted to make sure I wouldn't be drawing on personal experience and rightly so as I have never had many things or felt many things that women will feel while I am caring for them.
From the uni's I know of, I know their cohorts are a good mix of younger and older students, so I don't think there is a preference, there are good qualities in both.
