Default tutors and statements

I am starting my access course this september and with the help of some of the ladies from here I am happy with my personal statement for midwifery, I was just wondering how much college tutors TRY and change your statement?? I am open to opinions but I don't want it to be changed as I want it to be me if that makes sense but obviously they know whats best, has anybody else had theirs changed by tutors from college?

MIne was changed very little from what I had originally written, at the end of the day it is YOUR personal statement, so you decide if you agree with any suggestions a tutor might make about it.

Blimey, have to try and remember!

I don't think anything was changed as such, one of my tutors (English one) had a scan through and made some adjustments, but not much

Mine was changed slightly by my course tutor, but only after approval from me! And it was for the better!
At the end of the day, the tutor wants you to succeed in getting an interview and is going to help you in every way possible. In my opinion, they certainly wont depersonalise it as it needs to be your personal statement and it will be brought up at interview, so you have to be able to discuss!
Good luck! Sounds like your well on your way!

Help!! Want to apply to Worcester but don't know what to do as haven't got a tutor to ask for a reference (left uni 16 years ago), work for myself (for 13 years) so no boss either. I was a foster carer so have asked my social worker to give me a reference recently but of course she has no idea of my academic work.
I asked someone in admissions at Worcester if i needed recent study but she said i just needed to get some hands-on care work experience which i am trying to do.
Any ideas anyone?

I'm pretty sure you will need some recent study of between 3-5 years. Maybe an OU or access course?

I spent alot of time writing mine before I started college. When I started my main tutor said it wasn't right at all and advised me to start again. However I was sure I had it right and was the best it could be so I took it to another tutor and she said it was fantastic. We did change a few words and reorganise a little but she talked me through it and explained why she thought it needed doing. It all made sense in the end.

If you think its right then stick with it I did and I got in. Its called a personal statement for a reason!

When i did my personal statement, I found it really difficult to say what I meant because of the word limit.
My tutor helped me to siphon through what was really important - and what was just waffle!!
I think it's easy to get carried away when writing something like that, and it's quality not quantity that's important.
I found it very helpful to have another person's perspective, however they are only there to advise, they can't make u change things if u don't want to
