Hi there,

I am a hypnobirthing practitioner - I used hypnobirthing to birth my own baby and so decided to train to be able to help other mums have calm and gentle births too (I am also a psychotherapist/hypnotherapist). I have had alot of wonderful calm births from my courses and out of 25 births, only 2 CS to date.

I have interviewed a couple who were on one of my courses last year asking them how they found it - the video is on my website if you want to take a look:

www.hypnobirthingbrighton.co.uk

Or if you have any other questions, please do give me a shout - I'd be happy to go through the content with you.

Take care,

Juliet Eccleston

I organised a study day where I worked - sadly it was cancelled because loads of people put their names down then cancelled on me, but we're hoping to run it in the New Year - I'll give you a buzz with the new date if you like J ™.

One of our very experienced midwives recently cared for a primip who used hypnobirthing during her pregnancy and birth. It really threw the midwife - she couldn't tell by watching the woman whether she was actually in active labour or not, until she calmly announced that it was time to push.

Thanks Juliet, the video was really good and thanks for coming onto the site and sharing this with us thats a good ratio 25:2!

Do you think us students should be taught it? or in your view is it best left as an update skill after qualifying?

Hi
I think nearly everyone of my homebirth clients have used natal hypnotherapy in some form or another. They have ranged from using cd's in the home through to going to see a fully qualified hypnotherapist. I had a great experience with a very anxious multip who had a previous section. She laboured fantastic at home with the TENS machine and hypnotherapy..no other analgesia was needed...then again, it's very rare I use anything but water anyway at home..oh and a little whiff of Entonox maybe.
It's great to see in action, so I urge all of you student midwives out there to go on a study day at least and suggest it to your mums if you can!!
